Changing Long Term Life Habits
You can apply this process for changing long term life habits. It’s about consistent attention applied to what you want to create. While this may fall into the category of self-improvement, none the less, attention is key to making any changes you wish to make.
Attend to what is wrong and you attract more of what is wrong. Fear not having enough money and you always notice that you don’t have enough. Worry about not being happy and you’re not happy. Focus on not having love and that’s all you notice, not having love. This can be true even if you’re surrounded by love or money, etc. We do create our reality.
Dwelling on how you got this way or what could you do to stop it, does not help you. Focus to problems, dramas, crises, only prolongs and strengthens suffering as you put attention on them. Figuring out what you did wrong or the source of your problems will not ignite real transformation.
Stop attending to things you don’t want to create, like why you’re stuck, are not happier, are not doing what you love, are not more successful, why others may have more than you or why you’re not more prosperous. Or, this is a good one, why you are not following through on the action steps in this course! Why does not matter.
While the goal is to reprogram your perception of reality, break free to express more of your potential, to self-actualize and take a stand on the truth of who you are, this also works for other perhaps smaller changes you may wish to make. For example, let’s say you’re unhappy in life. Instead, make a conscious choice to be happier, at least more of the time. To be happy takes a continual refocusing of your attention away from those thoughts and feelings that trigger unhappiness as you notice them. In those moments, shift the focus instead to what makes you happy in that very moment. It does not take long to shift, create new neural pathways. Happiness then becomes a default setting!
This process is easier than you imagine to change your overall life experience. Breaking from paradigm paralysis demands focus, as often as you can on what you want – joy, aliveness, clarity, creating, personal liberation, etc. This means be alert to and shift your thoughts, feelings and behavior patterns with focus.
This sounds simple, perhaps too simple, if you feel you have too many issues, too many problems, that keep you from being happy. Or perhaps it’s other people, or your life circumstances, or certain past experiences or others that need to change before you can be happy. These are old patterns, diversions and excuses for not being happy (or whatever else you want to be changing).
Keep in mind, there are times in everyone’s life when crises, grief and similar situations arise that will overwhelm you with emotion and your attention is wrapped up in it. This rewiring process is not intended to be used to avoid what you really need to feel and go through, for example grief. With time though, there comes a point when you have some freedom to shift, rewire and focus to the good and what you appreciate. Instead of dwelling, rehashing old feelings, thinking you are doomed to repeat self-defeating patterns. These can now be the times for rewiring and establishing a new default setting.
Tired of the old stuff. Notice beauty and beauty will blossom. Embrace and be grateful for the prosperity and abundance you already have and are surrounded by. Attention to what you want magnetizes opportunities, puts you in the flow. Joy is who you are at your core. Focus there and joy can become your way of life. Feeling joyful takes you down the yellow brick road to your true destiny and abundance in all areas of your life.
Action Step: Reframing Life Experiences.
This is a powerful process of changing your outlook and perception of reality.
If Divine Creative Intelligence is always guiding, supporting, moving you towards the greater expression of your magnificence, then wouldn’t that mean everything that occurs in life is a blessing, guidance to take you to greater freedom and joy?
Try this on: As you have certain experiences in life, you know, the ones you don’t like. See them as a gift. A gift to expand, love more, feel more joy, be more present.
You can use this same process in whatever you encounter as it really is the universal life force working to take you present, wake you up and allow you to embrace a larger scope of life. Instead of the usual falling back into your sub-persona voices, like the victim, saying why me, try seeing it as a gift. See the wake up call in it, the blessing, the chance to shift focus to a more life-embracing stance.
Use as many moments as possible to appreciate the creativity, the energy, the joy, the love you have in your life right now. Look at the love you can share with others as well as the love you feel for yourself. What else is there, but to love every moment of your life, exactly as it is? Or, do you have something better to do? This is THE experience of being fully alive, of being awake, of experiencing the grace of enlightenment. This is where your attention needs to be.
Discussion
This could be a funny example – of course to us, not you. Lets say you have one of those moments. Everyone has these. You are in the kitchen, and you drop a piece of food on the floor that you are preparing. You go to pick it up, come back up and hit your head on a cabinet door left open. It shakes and a glass falls out and breaks on the floor. You then have to deal with broken glass and accidentally step on a piece of glass and cut your foot. So now off to find a bandaid but discover you forgot to buy more. Now you need to wrap your foot in a paper towel until you figure out what to do. Etc. Etc. How do you interpret this? To reframe you can view this as a need to be more physically present, rather than drifting. Isn’t this really the point, that you weren’t present, in the moment, focused to what you are doing.
